Arenal
Costa Rica’s geological zone of Arenal is the center of the Northern San Carlos Plains and includes the Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal. Arenal Volcano is active and provides exciting red lava eruptions approximately every forty-seven minutes. The region has many hot water springs generated by the volcano. Arenal Lake has excellent brown bass fishing and is world renowned for windsurfing.
The area is noted for its European style spas offering mud baths, body massage and healing waters. Arenal is dotted with excellent hotel accomodations, often associated with the spas.
The Arenal Volcano initiated its activity in Julio of 1968, since then, the water steam, gas discharges and explosion with emission of volcanic materials are constant. In some occasions, the explosions are accompanied by strong rumblings. The ash is carried by the wind and transported long distances, specially towards the areas located to the northwest of the volcano. The greatest and heavy materials fall near the crater. The lava flows are constantly emitted at temperatures over 1000 degrees Celsius cooling quickly as they descend.
During the nights, the Arenal Volcano delights the visitors and the villagers with its spectacular emissions, that seem more fireworks. The Mountain of Fire, as it is also, is a spectacle enjoyed by people from all the parts of the world.

Honeymoon Vista and Vista Plus - One king bed *
In addition to the fantastic view and all the amenities of our Vista units these ultra special guest rooms offer our guests the ability to enjoy a hot mineral spring experience in the privacy of their own lushly landscaped garden terrace. With the touch of a switch hot spring water flows with pressure into the jets of the Jacuzzi allowing for a soothing massage of your lower back and legs. The overflowing water then cascades over the infinity border edge and out of the Jacuzzi.
*Note: The Vista Plus has an extra bedroom and bathroom with two twin beds and the occupants of both the master and second bedrooms can enter and exit through a common hallway without disturbing each other as long as the privacy doors are closed. Family Suite Guest Room
The Family Guest Suite has the same layout and design as the Vista Guest Room on the first level but has a mezzanine bedroom above with its own private bath. The Master Bathroom has a Jacuzzi Tub. There is a King Size Bed on the lower master level and one King Size Bed on the Mezzanine Level. Accommodates four guests with a possible rollaway for additional children. There is an additional per person daily charge for more than two guests.
Two Bedroom Junior Springs Suite (Room #317)
- One king and two twin beds with additional rollaway possible.
This two bedroom two bath guest room occupies an even higher elevation than our Alta Vista units and enjoys an even more spectacular view of the volcano and countryside. The master bedroom has the same layout as the vista but the bathroom is larger with a special arched ceiling and lighting feature behind the Jacuzzi tub.
The second bedroom has floor to ceiling windows in a radius design that offers a dramatic sensation of floating as you view the mountainside dropping hundreds of feet below. The room offers two twin beds with sufficient space to add a third if needed. The occupants of both the master and second bedrooms can enter and exit through a common hallway without disturbing each other as long as the privacy doors are closed.
Two Bedroom Junior Springs Suite (Room #320)
- One king and two beds with additional rollaway possible.
This two bedroom two bath guest room occupies an even higher elevation than our Alta Vista units and enjoys an even more spectacular view of the volcano and countryside. The master bedroom has the same layout as the vista but the bathroom is larger with a special arched ceiling and lighting feature behind the Jacuzzi tub.
The second bedroom has the unique feature of a Jacuzzi tub in front of the picture window fronting the volcano; however, the occupants of the second bedroom must pass through the master bedroom to enter the second bedroom so this unit does not offer as much privacy as the other Junior Springs Suite (Room 317). The advantage of this unit is that you can open the double sliding doors to the second bedroom to create a more spacious atmosphere.
Two Bedroom Oropendola Suites
- Two king beds with room for additional rollaway beds.
The two bedroom two bath Oropendola Suite is the largest accommodation on the property with the exception of our Villas and the second floor of the unit occupies the highest elevation of any of our guest rooms. The layout is “townhouse” style comprising two levels with an interior staircase and privacy door.
The master bedroom has the same amenities as the vista hotel rooms along with a king size bed, and the second bedroom on the level above is a spacious great room concept with 18 foot vaulted ceilings. The great room has a king size bed and seating area with a sofa and chairs along with a mini bar and balcony with rocking chairs, hammocks and table seating. The second floor bath is smaller than the master bath and does not have a Jacuzzi.
Two Bedroom Springs Suite
- One king bed and two twin beds with additional rollaway possible.
This accommodation is located on the top floor and offers maximum flexibility. Although it has a completely separate entrance for the second bedroom it also has sliding connecting doors to the master bedroom that can be opened to create a spacious effect. The master bedroom is a great room with 16 foot vaulted ceilings and a unique bathroom with Jacuzzi.
The second bedroom is the largest second bedroom on the property and boasts a window front Jacuzzi facing the volcano. This bedroom offers two twin beds.
Three Bedroom Springs Suite
- Two king beds and two twin beds.
This three bedroom three bath guest room occupies the highest elevation of any of our guest rooms and enjoys an even more spectacular view of the volcano and countryside from the Master and second bedroom. The master bedroom has the same layout as the vista but the bathroom is larger with a special arched ceiling and lighting feature behind the Jacuzzi tub.
The second bedroom has floor to ceiling windows in a radius design that offers a dramatic sensation of floating as you view the mountainside dropping hundreds of feet below. This bedroom offers two twin beds.

The third bedroom and bath has a completely private entrance from a stairwell balcony shared by all three rooms. This third bedroom is the only room on the property that does not have a view of the volcano but looks back toward the reception and surrounding forest. The advantage of the third bedroom is that it offers complete privacy from the master and second bedroom. This third bedroom offers a king size bed.
Villa Guayaba
Accommodates four guests with a possible rollaway for children.
The Villa Guayaba boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms with a Jacuzzi Tub in the Master bath, full kitchen, heated plunge pool with Jacuzzi jets and cascades, sun deck, hammocks and outdoor dining area. The Villa Guayaba location allows for the most incredible views of the Arenal Volcano. There is an additional per person daily charge for more than four guests.
Villa Calatea
Accommodates four guests with a possible rollaway for children. The Villa Calatea is a one of a kind Villa with two bedrooms, two and one half bathrooms. Both the Master and Guest Bath have Jacuzzi Tubs. In addition, the Guest Room has an outdoor shower on its private terrace. The Master and Guest Suite share a living room and kitchen with a large refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven. The Villa has separate entrances, heated plunge pool with Jacuzzi jets and cascades, sun deck, hammocks, an outdoor dining area and, of course, an incredible view of the Arenal Volcano. Our master chef has created a menu blending the latest fusion concepts and the finest ingredients found on Costa Rica’s farms and in its two oceans. We are not sure whether to describe the experience as poolside, cliff-side or tree canopy dining. It all depends on which way you turn because you are surrounded by five waterfall pools, while overlooking the tree canopy, down a slope which falls one thousand feet below, while the prevailing breezes rustle the palm fronds shading you from above. Add great food from the grill including the best hamburger in Costa Rica, an informal dress code, and some Jimmy Buffet music to the equation and you might realize that you have found the definition of the word “vacation”. Bathing attire is not only permitted it is suggested. Even better, if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your poolside chaise lounge, we will bring the menu to you. Because after all, we think this is what your vacation is all about.
BAR & ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCES
Heliconia Bar

Located on the fourth floor of the reception between Las Ventanas and Tres Cascadas, this bar is perfect for a relaxing drink before or after dinner or for an afternoon cocktail. The seating presents a magnificent view of the volcano. The music is a mellow Latin jazz and the feeling is casual elegance. The bar is decorated daily with cut Heliconia flowers from our onsite collection of 150 species. The flowers are so magnificent you have to touch them to make sure they are real.
We are opening a new nightclub lounge named the "Wa Experience" in November of 2010 and we certainly expect this to have the hottest nightlife in La Fortuna. It is a combination lounge and gourmet appetizer experience that combines live entertainment and great dance music.
La Laguna Bar (The Lagoon Bar)

Located in the center of our largest pool named La Laguna (The Lagoon), this swim up bar boasts 12 dry and 30 wet seats. This unique pool has multiple waterfalls and contains chlorinated water that is heated to a more than comfortable 88˚F by a heat exchange system using the hot water pumped from our natural hot springs. Another unique feature of this bar is the warm curtain of micro-bubbles emanating from its base that creates the sensation of sitting atop a flowing spring.
When there is a televised sporting event this becomes the best sports bar in La Fortuna, Arenal where you sit in the warm water and watch the game on our flat screen TV's. Spending a few hours at this bar which has the best view of the Arenal Volcano is one of the best things to do in La Fortuna.
The Ranchito Bar (The Little Rancho)

Located next to Canyon Falls, we believe this bar boasts the most beautiful setting in the reception pool area. Its higher location on the upper level of the Cascada Grande Pool allows you to see out towards the volcano, down over Playa Piedra Pool and Lower Laguna Pools, back towards the largest waterfall of Cascada Grande and out over the La Laguna pool and down to the valley below. There is also a heated Jacuzzi a few steps away. This bar is also well suited for small private parties of 25 persons or less.
Los Perdidos Bar (The Lost Ones)
Located at the nexus of the trails within Perdido Springs (Lost Springs), this is a rustic palm thatch jungle bar that seats about eight people surrounded by hot spring waterfalls on three sides and gardens on the other. There will be waiter service to all seven of the Perdido Springs Pools from this bar. This is a great place to watch the adventurous take a ride down our water flume the Monkey Slide.
Game Lounge
Located on our Game Lounge Level this bar is not only for sushi but is a great place to watch sports on Satellite TV and perhaps play a game of pool, darts or backgammon. Don’t forget to come to the Sunset Terrace located just steps away from the bar for happy hour cocktails. This is definitely the best sports bar in La Fortuna.
